Global Warming and the Environment

Global warming: what a joke. Seriously? How can people actually freak out over something that Al Gore says? I mean, I do my part to help the environment. I recycle, turn off all the lights, I buy the special light bulbs that help save energy, and my washer and dryer are energy efficient. I am just not one of those “oh, the world is going to overheat and explode and we all will die if we do not do anything to save the planet!” I recently found out that you could get a tax deduction if you buy like an energy efficient car or something that helps the environment. I found this kind of cool, but honestly, I would not do that; I just do not care that much about it. Sure, we should all try to keep the environment nice but do we honestly need to go overboard with the “lets all save the planet” stuff? Please, do not get me wrong, I think we should all respect the environment, but the environment can adapt and reach a state of equilibrium.

Back on the topic of global warming, I think it is a hoax, especially since it has been recently exploited that Al Gore made up some of his information that was used in his movie “An Inconvenient Truth.” According to Wikipedia, global warming is the increase in the average temperature of Earth’s near-surface air and oceans since the mid-twentieth century and its projected continuation. Sure, we have had some very hot temperatures, but we also have had freezing temperatures. The Earth has these cycles of cold and hot temperatures. That is just how the Earth works. Some people are now saying we are actually in a global cooling since, apparently, the average temperature of the years is slowly decreasing. I do not know what is going on with the temperature, but I am pretty sure that we are not helping out the ozone layer.

When I think of the environment, I always think of the movie “The Happening.” In the movie, the Earth is basically sending out a message to the humans populating it. The Earth is telling them that the environment needs to be reborn and how it needs to reach equilibrium, as I stated earlier. As the movie progresses, the Earth starts killing off people and animals by giving them a “disease” that makes them turn into a suicidal zombie-like vessel. Imagine if that could actually happen in real life? Not going to lie, but if the Earth could alter with a humans’ biological make-up, then I would be pretty scared. After watching that movie, I was more aware of my surroundings. I wanted to protect the Earth more so than ever, but now I have reached the conclusion that I can only do so much, and that one person can’t save the entire world, no matter how hard one tries. I think if we all just become a tad more attentive, then we should make a small difference.

Stop Global Whining

While on this past spring break vacation, I met a man who had a very strong opinion on the topic of global warming. Jessie’s grandpa, also known as GP, is very adamant on his stance that global warming is just a hoax to get people to care about the environment (“and what not“). His bumper sticker on his car reads, “stop global whining”. Although I understand that as a Vietnam War air force veteran GP has had to go through a lot during his life and may not see protecting the environment as necessary, I would have to respectfully and strongly disagree with his point of view. Every single time I see that commercial about the polar bears, I want to cry. Watching the little babies swim around in the water with melting ice caps all around them is so sad! In GP’s opinion it is just a change in the atmosphere, not the destruction. He told us that this kind of thing happens to the environment every couple years but it is nothing that will end the world. I think the reason he is so sure it will not effect us because by the time the ozone layer is actually gone and global warming does take over and kill us GP will be long gone, and so will we for that matter. It might take several decades of even centuries but there is no mistaking the giant hole in the ozone layer. I think everyone should take more consideration in to their environment. If more people carpooled even a couple days a week to school, work, or wherever, there would be less smog and fossil fuel use would be cut. Another bonus to the whole carpooling to school thing would be that I might get to park somewhere remotely close to the entrance of the school without having to get there at seven in the morning to stake out a spot! Global warming is even effecting us today . Skin cancer is becoming more severe and more common due to the ozone layer deteriorating. If that helpful layer of the atmosphere is not there in ten years, we will burn to a crisp! People in the world do not particularly seem to care too much about the future unless money is the topic of conversation. People keep buying their Hummers and Escalades and say they care about skin cancer, which is completely contradictory. Those people might as well go to the tanning bed for hours every day. Not only is global warming an issue in our environment but pollution, including air pollution, is ruining hundreds of ecosystems everyday. When you throw a plastic bag in the trash instead of putting it in a recycling bin, that bag will go in to the ocean, a seal will see it, ,mistake it for a jellyfish, and will choke on it or suffocate and die. When it comes to animals, that is where I must put my foot down. I will honestly say I could care less about grass and bushes but when you see a little polar bear with no mommy and hear about seals getting choked to death I feel something.

Global warming is a load of crap.
All of this talk over the past decade regarding our Earth heating up as a result of a depleted o-zone layer and solar flares and carbon dioxide emissions is really getting annoying. This argument started a few years ago when Al Gore coined the concept of Global Warming. Now I am going to make the point that I am not an expert on the arguments surrounding this phenomenon, but I do know several facts that discredit this theory.
The environment needs to be respected. We should not take advantage of its resources to the point where indigenous species and habitats are wiped out entirely. We only get one Earth. These arguments are quintessential in the environmental activist movement. I happen to agree with these assertions. These statements are not, however, the same as the arguments made for “global warming.” Global warming is simply another attempt to blame the wealthy for problems that exist on this planet. It is counterproductive and simply false. There is no substantial proof that the Earth is becoming hotter than it has ever been in previous centuries. The Earth has cycles. Species evolve, adapt, change, and sometimes die off completely. Lately, this global warming has raised concern about polar bears in the arctic that are dying because of the melting ice caps. Yes this is tragic, but what gives us the right to step in and intervene with natural occurrences. Evolution and adaptation are based off of changing to positively coexist in a certain environment. The polar bears will learn to survive somehow. We should not assume power and try to save them by locking them into zoos. We belong to the environment: the environment doesn’t belong to us. We should not adapt the environment to us. We should adapt to the environment. Watch Avatar… you’ll cry… unless you’re Mr. Glenn…

People have truly blown global warming way out of proportion. It has grown from an issue of carpooling to getting yelled at for throwing gum out of the car window because a bird might choke on it. Global warming does not even exist! NASA recently repealed their statements regarding global temperatures being dangerous. The issue was made up as an attempt to get additional funding for space programming. Slightly unethical but if that’s what it takes I’m all for it. I think space research is a worthy investment, especially if our planet does reach a carrying capacity.
Although global warming is a myth, environmental protection is still a cause that needs to be addressed. We all need to do our part in conserving natural resources. It is terrifying to think about what will happen if we run out of oil or if a certain food was wiped out. Our Earth is undeniably fragile, and we need to take precautionary measures to keep it rotating.

Global Warming

I think that global warming is another issue for people to get all worked up over and to fight about. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t believe that it exist or that I think that we should limit the amount of nonrenewable resources we use. Maybe it’s the hippie side of me but I think that we should take better care of our Earth. During sixth grade my science teacher showed us a video on the advancement science has made in respect towards alternative sources of fuels using algae. That was 5 years ago, research and experiments have advanced from the beginning stages and there is a fully functioning form of algae fuels that could be mass produced and used to run cars, machines, and virtually anything that fossil fuels and gasoline power now. To ignore this kind of advancement is ridiculous and to say that it’s too costly to invest in other forms of fuels is absurd. Billions of wasted dollars from the current president AND the previous one have shown that no cost is too high. In the long run mass producing these alternatives would be cheaper not only for the government but for the people as well.

By using nonrenewable resources we are not only hurting future generations we are hurting ourselves. It’s predicted that by 2020 a global decline in oil will start to take effect; that’s exactly one decade away and I plan on still being alive ten years from now. Not to mention that gaping holes in the ozone layer are effecting the world now, due to the fact that pollutants in the atmosphere are wearing away a necessary protection from the sun. If the mass production of algae fuels doesn’t interest people there is also hydrogen fuel. Hydrogen fuel is currently the fuel source for people who have had the technology installed into their cars; it’s also produced and sold in Greenland for people to use in their cars. Which means that hydrogen fuel is not only supposed to work, it actually does. These alternatives to the gas we use now have now not only produce nearly 97% less pollution than the products we use now but they’re cheaper and they’re renewable. Renewable meaning it can be created again, and again, and again, and again.

The Earth is not only our home but it’s home to nearly 5 million other creatures and plants and possibly 50 million more depending on the creatures and plants that have yet to be described and discovered. Global warming is real in the sense that the world is changing due to the greenhouse effect. This means that the weather changes drastically all over the world to either hot or cold extremes. The presences of atmospheric weirdness can’t be denied especially with the kind of weather that’s recently been experienced. Something must be done about protecting the Earth from even more damage, it’s the very least we can do.

Environment

Environment and the discussion about it became popular in 60’s and 70’s as American citizens carried around signs saying that Mother Nature was dying. Images of oil spills further increase sympathy for the environment. Hundreds of people were forced to witness images of young seals, birds, and other creatures covered in sticky black oil either dead or close to death. Any person would feel sadness witnessing it. The first Earth Day was celebrated in April of 1970. 400 000 people joined together hearing speeches and celebrating this new holiday to fight for their belief in the protection of mother nature from capitalist expansion arguing that thermal warming (Global Warming) and other things were occurring to due to humanity. The United States government did act in this time period to help the fight for survival of Mother Nature by creating the Environmental Protection Agency that set regulations on businesses and other things to help prevent the destruction of the environment through wither pollution or direct destruction for expansion. Regulations could have included how they disposed of toxic waste and where they could dispose of it. It could also have regulated how and where they could expand in a way that did not hurt or damage the environment. The government also created the Occupational Safety and Health Administration as well. These agencies were successful in protecting the environment due to them having the power to enforce their regulations against whom violated it. Through the struggles and audacity of environmentalist of the 60’s and 70’s brought direct action of the National government against the Capitalist expansionistic activities of American business.

Global warming in this nation is a common phrase used by many and known by all. Environmentalists call for the end of expansion and a tighter grip on expansion in capitalism. Supporters say that expansion is key to success for society. They believe that when there is prosperity, people should grow out and create new businesses in new territories. Is there a limit where expansionism goes over the limit and should be restrained? Many different groups using their own personal beliefs can debate this question. The truth is there is no simple answer for if or when capitalist expansion should be stopped or restrained because there is no actual proof it is destroying the environment. Many believe in global warming but Georgia doesn’t seem to be warming up when we had 3 snow days in one winter season. How can I feel that capitalism is destroying the environment by causing global warming when my state has a colder season than normal?

In the present situation, there is no serious climate change present that shows human actions in capitalism and other things are effecting our environment. To show their case before an audience, they must bring in something valuable to show that their beliefs that the environment needs to be saved is legitimate. I think that the necessary regulations and practices instituted today are enough until someone brings forth solid evidence that these regulations and practices are not enough and that mother nature needs further protection from humankind.

Thus I propose a Modest Inconvenience

Your heard it right folks. We are in the midst of crisis. Global Warming! With all of the drowning polar bears, dying pigs, suffer man (manbearpigs), we are faced with something huge! Something that we must stop or else human extinction will be certain. The Earth is on the verge of exploding from its core! Mr. Chalko reported that the last few years have been the warmest years recorded in history. He also indicates that Glaciers are melting and sea levels are rising, which indicate the coming of the end. Volcanoes will come out from their dormancy! Tsunamis will cause planetary floods! Earthquakes will leave millions in ruin! These factors, while very bad, are all dwarfed by the global warming’s final solution: exploding the core of the earth. You see, the core of the earth is very similar to a nuclear reactor. The added heat from global warming will disturb that process and cause a total “nuclear meltdown”.
Due to the seriousness of this I also propose a solution! I have many steps for this proposal so read carefully (this might be our only hope for survival). First we must get rid of all cars/ buses/ airplanes/ transportation. These monster CO2 emitters must be destroyed to preserve our lives. Never mind travel, Never mind convenience, our ancestors did well without these evil emitters and so can we. Second, we must get rid of all industries! These are also very harmful. In the expense of Mother Nature, we have built factories that pollute and industries that exploit. We must rid ourselves of those bad habits. Never mind your money, never mind your luxuries, the cavemen were able to do it and so could you. Third, We must adopt new habits! We cannot continue growing foreign plants, which destroy the indigenous ones. We cannot continue living in houses that are built through the emissions of tons of greenhouse gases. We cannot continue to wear the cloths that are made from exploiting our Mother Earth. We must also discipline ourselves. Discipline is the key to not turning back to our harmful ways. We must learn to tolerate life without luxury. We must set up new regulations to be sure that we do not become part of the problem. We should never mind these wants, never mind these materials, animals don’t need them nor do you. Fourth, and perhaps the most challenging, is that we have to stop Mother Nature from committing suicide! I am saying fill up those volcanoes that launch emissions into the atmosphere. Stop the evaporation of water for water vapor is a prominent greenhouse gas. Kill all cows, for their fluctuation will speed up global warming. These are the things we must do. Never mind your history, never mind your science, knowledge is something that living things could live without. Finally, for those of you who are too stubborn to change. I also have a final solution for you. Your arrogance could someday end the world. We, those who are rational, cannot risk your presence. We have to dispose all that hinders our march towards survival. This is try or die. Never mind your humanity, never mind your consciousness, otherwise it would be apocalypse from now on.

The Global Warming Hoax

So this is what I think about global warming…its ridiculous! It is a bunch of bologna that dramatic environmentalists have decided is the root cause of polar bear deaths, melting glaciers, etc. But, when was the last time we got snow? Oh yeah a few weeks ago in MARCH. I mean I’m not an environmental expert but snow in Georgia in late March doesn’t exactly point towards global warming. Maybe I’m ignorant of the Antarctica weather patterns but if they are anything like the weather here, I’d say we shouldn’t be worrying about the “melting” glaciers but rather, hmm I don’t know, maybe our down-falling economy? Sounds like a good idea to me.

According to a news report, contrary to media reports Antarctic sea ice continues to expand. Ice totals for March 2010 are appreciably higher than 1980. The main stream media concentrates on a couple of small areas of the Antarctic in order to alarm you in to believing that Antarctica is melting, when in fact its gaining ice. Key word: gaining. Why are people getting so freaked out and paranoid about global warming when in fact the earth is doing just to the opposite. Just because one man—cough, cough, Al Gore—proposed this preposterous idea that the earth is melting away piece by piece doesn’t make the theory true. Americans need to learn to digest more than one theory at a time. Instead of just taking in one environmentalist’s outlandish idea Americans should consider the whole realm of possibilities first. The media has simply been fuel to Al Gore’s fire because they are scaring the human race into believing that global warming is a dire emergency that must be solved asap when it really has no effect on humans at all. Don’t get me wrong, I think the environment is something that should be held in high regard; I just think that we should hold the rights of the human race at a higher regard.

For instance, instead of worrying about the well-being of the polar bears, we should consider the well-being of the starving children in Africa dying of malaria because personally I think humans are more important than animals. Instead of spending billions of dollars on solving a problem that doesn’t exist, why don’t we actually put our money towards something tangible and vastly apparent such as global starvation or our own struggling economy? The situation called out by Gore is not as drastic as he makes it seem, and Americans and all people across the globe for that matter should realize that global warming is a hoax and not worth government funded research. Almost all the information gathered by environmentalists and scientists since 1999 has refuted the theory of global warming and there is really no need for people to be alarmed by the supposed crisis. I mean, maybe there is some evidence out there that supports some of Gore’s claims, but from what I have researched global warming is just another crazy call for attention and money.
