Journal 1/11/10

The first week back at school was brutal yet very satisfying at the same time. Sunday night came, the last night of our break, and I was absolutely dreading going back to school. I woke up that morning and when I walked into school it actually became real to me that I had another semester of school left until summer break. The instant I walked in, that school smell (like the smell of a different house) just filled my nose and it sucked to be plainly honest. But it was Tuesday which meant we only had a 4 day week to get back into the rhythm of things. One of my New Year's resolutions was to not procrastinate as much with homework and school work (notice the "as much"). Hopefully I will be able to stick to my plan and smoothly sail through second semester to a long and relaxing summer break.
The forecast for Johns Creek, GA predicted snowfall on Thurday and possibly Friday of our first week back which was exciting considering that our area gets a half inch of snow per year in a good winter season. Thursday night came and everyone was praying for snow and thankfully the roads were already icey by about 10:30-11 PM which was around the time that the superintendent announced that school in Fulton County would be cancelled for Friday. That really made my week and a 3-day weekend was a plus for everyone. But that also means that the first 5-day school week is going to be long and boring.
Over our holiday break nothing too outstanding happened. I'd say the highlight of mine was Christmas and a trip to Orlando, FL for a big soccer tournament. Christmas this year made me come to a realization. I noticed that over my past adolescent years, Christmas was becoming more and more routine and not as special as it used to be. Now, it is a lot less formal than it used to be. When I was a kid I would look forward to decorating the tree and digging through my stocking at 6 AM on Christmas morning. My sister and I would stay up late, leave food for Santa and spend the morning with out whole family. Nowadays though, it has become a lot less involved. My dad went out of town for the holoidays so my sister and I had Christmas with him on the Sunday before Christmas and there were no lights, no tree and no huge presents. Christmas morning came and I was with my mom at her house where we opened a few presents and had an extravagent feast for lunch. This year was the first year in a long time too that I actually took the time to make an in-depth Christmas list for my parents and thankfully they got me most of the stuff that I really wanted. Now what I am really looking forward to is a possible ski trip in February and better yet, Spring Break.
