Winter Break and the ER

The Emergency Room is not quite as fun as it sounds. Last week I had the privilege to spend a night there, and truthfully I never want to go back. After begging and pleading not to take me, and trying to convince her I was all better my mom put me in the car and off we went up to Emory Johns Creek. I had never been to the hospital before-ever. The only time I guess would be when I was born, but that doesn’t count, and I visit my grandma in there sometimes. I have a couple complaints about them now that I’ve experienced them first hand. First of all they took so long to get to me that if I had really been dying I would have been dead by the time they got to me. I know I wasn’t a complete emergency, but I am still important. Second, the lady made me-the sick person- answer all the questions. I was in the ER for a reason, and I don’t feel like talking so stop asking me questions lady. She said it was to see how “there” I was. Third, the layout of the room was very inconvenient. They put the curtain in front of the T.V., so that if it’s closed you can’t see the T.V., and they put my IV on the wrong side which was annoying. And the lights in the room, don’t even get me started, they are the brightest lights I have ever experienced in my life-they’re awful. My eyes would sting every time I opened them. And my last complaint, but I’m sure I could think of more, is that every time right when I was about to fall asleep they would come in and get me for another test. It was ridiculous. It took me forever to fall asleep and now they’re coming and waking me up.

So I was in this place for a whole night and that is enough. They gave me a ton of medication which took most of my pain away. The only pain I experienced the next couple of days was pain that they caused when they gave me a spinal tap. And so I was ordered to lay in my bed for the next forever. I wasn’t allowed out of my bed. So this is how I spent the last three days of my Christmas break stuck in my room not able to move. All I ate was soup, and I had a bell that I rang for anything else I needed. I don’t even remember last Sunday because I slept the whole day away, medicated, out of it and tired.

So if you ever have the unfortunate decision of whether or not to go to the Emergency Room- don’t. You will probably be better off staying at home, unless you really are dying then go ahead and go, but be warned they will hurt you. Unless you get the nurse Lynn-she actually was nice.
