Origins of Sexism

In AP Language Arts we have read article after article about how screwed up mankind is simply because it has always been run by men. I could not agree more. Men have ruined society in its entirety. We have trashed all political frame-work in the world, destroyed the environment to fuel our badass F-150s, and turned the innocent Barbie into a sex symbol. We strut around in our Levis and cut off shirts (which men should seriously refrain from because women don’t really want “tickets to the gun show”) and think that we run the world because in fact, we do. To be honest, that is a scary thought. Before I cross the line and make a presumably sexist comment, I want to provide a brief caveat that women are indeed sophisticated and intelligent beyond even the capabilities of most men: there is a select group of men and women that gainsay all stereotypes. However, the vast majority of both groups ruins it for everyone else. Men running society in its entirety is dangerous, but could you imagine a society run by women?
Well, I think women would do just fine. Possibly even better then men have. I am wondering, however, why men decided to step up and carry societal burdens. Before sophisticated civilizations and developed political structures were even thought about, men decided that they were going to be the ones who would step up and bring home the meat for the family. We were genetically programmed to be the more powerful, possibly less intelligent gender. As civilizations were developing, the force men possessed was more necessary for survival than conceptual thinking was, and as a result men had a higher status. As civilizations became more sophisticated, the force men inanely possess became less important. The male role in society, however, remained. This, however, does not make men more important in society. Men can kill as many buffalos as they want but if women didn’t exist to turn it into food, men would be wiped out from food poisoning within a decade. Men’s work is their role in society. Women have a different role. This role is generally interpreted as cooking and cleaning, but women have the ability to define this role as they see fit. Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton chose a different role and as a result have made significant impacts on modern society. If society were to start from scratch in a modern society, women may have the upper hand due to the general superiority of their mental capabilities.
Sexism, similar to racism, is no longer an excuse for anyone. Men and women have the same opportunities in every realm of society. I’m not saying they have equal capabilities, but they are presented with the same opportunities to succeed. The subjugation of women continued for far too long, but I think it is safe to say the majority of it is over.
Women and Men are fundamentally, essentially different in most aspects of life. There is, however, one thing men and women can agree on.

The other is pleasant to look at.
