War on Terror

So War on Terror I think is quite a controversial topic in America because some people agree and some people don’t, some people could care less; some people have friends and family in the war fighting. I feel like this war has been going on forever; I do not even remember a time when it was not going on. I guess it really started more around when 9/11 happened and that was when I was in like third grade so maybe that is why I do not really remember. Personally I do not really keep myself focused or updated with this war because it has kinda just run its course. It has been going on for so long and people are somewhat tired of it because it is not really going anywhere. We cannot pinpoint exact people we are going after and they are so elusive, and it is all just becoming a game of hide-and-go-seek. That does not mean we should not show our support though because it is still risking and taking Americans’ lives out in the Middle East, and to someone they are important. People want others to care because it is their children out there, they do not want them dying for nothing. Even if we do not agree with why we are doing this, or questioning the effects and purposes we still need to trust and support because if we do not support each other in this country we will just fall apart. Unity is what brings a nation together not people just going off in their own bubbles and ignoring what everyone else says just because they do not agree. I think this war has noble causes, mainly the protection of U.S. soil and citizens because 9/11 rocked us hard. We do not want that happening again and this saves us from fighting on our own soil which for Americans would be difficult seeing as though we have not had a fight, or war, on our soil since the Civil War which was pretty intense in number of deaths. We also need to show people who’s boss around here and you cannot just go around attacking the United States and get away with it- so I think this war is somewhat a pride issue. George Bush took a lot of critique about this war, and it ultimately stained his presidency in my opinion. He will always be known for the War on Terror, and people give him a hard time for it, but what was he supposed to do? Let America get attacked and do nothing about it. Ture it maybe could have ended by now because we have already done most of what we needed, but cut him some slack, looking out for an entire country is kinda a hard job and not everyone is going to be happy with the outcome- that is impossible. I think this war is necessary though and helps Americans feel somewhat safer in general after the 9/11 attack.
