abort abort

The debate over abortion is as heated as ever. With the economy in a tight place, should women have the right to choose whether or not they ready to bring a life into this world? Some take a religious stance on the issue and some take a radical pro-choice stance, no matter what the arguments are out there it boils down to this: the people creating legislature about this issue are men and men simply do not experience the pregnancy process first hand. Therefore, the decisions being made pertaining to a woman’s body is being made by someone who does not understand the ramifications of physically birthing a child.
First off, all of those chuvanistic males that feel like it is their god given right to tell women what to do and how to treat their bodies can stick it where the sun does not shine because they are half the reason the woman is in a situation where she has to contemplate abortion in the first place. No, murder is not appropriate in any circumstance. However, if a baby is within the first trimester then it technically is nothing more than a clump of cells. It has no brain, heart, lungs or gender. It is non-existent.
Let us go into a hypothetical situation for a couple seconds here okay? Let’s assume that a sixteen year old girl got pregnant. The boy who helped get her there wants nothing to do with her and her parents can barely afford her not to mention a baby. Her options are: A. give it up for adoption and let the child always wonder why her biological parents did not want her and risk having a child searching for their lost parents or B. abort the child so it will never have to face a life of pain and rejection in a childcare system that is broken as it is. Honestly, anyone that says it is against the bible to have an abortion and stop a life that god has given you to nurture is in need of a cold shock into reality. Reality is that times have changed since the bible was written and that God would never wish any soul to come into a life of pain and misery if it could be preventable. God would not want someone to live with guilt for an entire lifetime over a child that is unknown to them. God gave women the gift to bake babies in their oven so that they could make loving, supporting families in which there is a stable income and a nurturing environment to grow up in. God did not give women this priviledge so they could destroy not only their own life, but a child’s as well. He would have wanted what was best for everyone. Plus, if he does have a divine plan for all would it not be true that perhaps abortion in some peoples lives are part of their plan to build strong character with God?

Abortion

Abortion is a very touchy subject. It is one of the most controversial arguments in America today. Personally, I am “pro-life.” I believe that as soon as the egg and sperm come together, that there is a baby. Abortion, in my opinion, is murder. I think that it is wrong for a woman to just kill a baby because she does not want a child. That is just a way for her to escape and accept responsibility. All the woman is doing is killing the unborn child. Who knows, maybe the child could have been the next president or the doctor that finds the cure to cancer. By getting the abortion, the woman throws away any chance at all for the child to become something great.

There are several different reasons why I am against abortion. Some of the reasons are because of my religious background, and others are from a moral standpoint. There are also several reasons from a scientific view that makes me not against abortions. Abortion has several consequences that are more negative than positive. Abortion could cause serious problems for a woman. If a woman has had an abortion, her chances of having a miscarriage, a premature baby, a stillbirth, blocked fallopian tubes, weakened cervix, and weaken the reproductive system. Also, abortion can lower the chance of a woman getting pregnant later in her life; it also is considered to be one of the reasons that more cases of breast, uterine and cervical cancer in women. To me, I honestly do not think that an abortion is worth what could happen to me. Many women who have received an abortion end up feeling really guilty afterwards and fall into a depression. The guilt comes from the woman killing her unborn child. A lot of women end of regretting ever getting an abortion, which can lead to intense psychological stress.

In many cases, the women who are having sex think that an abortion is just another form of birth control. They believe that they can practice unprotected sex and then have an abortion if they feel like it. I do not believe that abortion should be used as another form of birth control. While it may be harder for minors to get actual birth control, they should still at least try. I do not think that if I got an abortion that I would be able to have any self-respect. I think that all of the self-respect would just go away and it would be really hard for it to come back.

However, there are always exceptions allowing for abortion. If a woman was pregnant and having that baby would put her life in danger, then I think that she should be able to abort the baby. Why risk two lives if you could save one life easily? Also, if a woman is raped, she should be allowed the option to abort the baby. Personally, I still think it is wrong to have the abortion, but the woman had no say in this whatsoever. It happened against her will, so she should not have to take the consequences of the rape.

There is always adoption. So many families are not able to have children on their own. Instead of having the unwanted child killed, then just give the baby up for adoption so a loving, caring family could start a family.

shmoshmortion

Abortion, abortion, abortion. Where to begin about abortion? I have been waiting to write this blog since the week we got this paper. Why? You might ask. Well, because personally I have some very strong opinions about the topic of abortion. To me, it is a touchy subject because most people I talk to about it are harshly opposed to the idea, while I am one hundred percent pro choice. However, I have heard some very good points against abortion. One very convincing argument I have encountered was that somewhere in the past, or possibly future, a baby that was never born could have found the cure to cancer. It is not always cancer. Sometimes other diseases fill that place in the statement: AIDS, HIV, herpes, etc. While that discussion is a very good point, I still remain solid on my side of the wall. I completely believe that women should have the choice to abort their unborn child or not. Think about it. What if you were walking down a dark alley in downtown Atlanta and some man grabs you and violently rapes you? A few weeks later you find out you are pregnant. Would you keep the baby? It would be a constant reminder everyday for the rest of your life of that one night when you were violated against your will. I do understand that adoption is a different option instead of abortion but even then, you are carrying around the child of your predator for a full nine months. In my opinion, I think giving the baby up for adoption after seeing its beautiful face would be much, much harder than ending it before it started. My view point may seem harsh and cold hearted but in reality you have to do what is best for yourself not other people. Another possible situation that may lead to the consideration of abortion would be getting pregnant at a very early age or possibly being in a bad time in your life. At the age of sixteen years old, no girl is ready, mentally, emotionally, or physically, to have a child. Personally, I make about two hundred dollars a month. Babies on average cost about six hundred a month. If you are underage or just plain under paid, you are not in the right situation to raise a child. You could possibly be hurting them by going through with the birth because you are bringing them in to a world of unfortunate circumstances. It would be better to go through with the abortion and then later on down the road when you are more successful you can have a child and be prepared and give the child the life it deserves. Also, in Freakonomics, the authors note that the decrease in crime in the nineties is directly related to the legalization of abortion in 1973 with the Roe v. Wade case. When abortion became legal, children were not born into less fortunate areas with little money and therefore were less likely to become involved with drugs and crime.

Abortion

Abortion is a very controversial issue that has been debated back since the Roe vs. Wade case back in 1973. People who abort there babies make a very tough decision: to end or to save someone’s life. Abortion should only be legal under certain circumstances. If a person gets raped and it was not there decision to have a baby then they should have the choice on whether to have the baby or not. However, I do side with the people who say that if someone gets raped and does not want to keep the baby, then to have the baby and put it up for adoption. However, that would still be a very painful process for the lady which is why the issue is so controversial. I do agree with the fact that abortion is not a black and white issue. However, ending a child’s life in a female after that child has already been in the mother’s stomach for a certain number of days should be illegal because if a heart is beating, than in my opinion ending a life after that event has occurred should legally be considered murder. People really should not be able to play the roll of God because that just throws of the natural selection pattern which could turn out to hurt our society one day without us knowing it. What if one of the babies that are killed is the man or woman to cure cancer? We will never know if we have killed the once in a lifetime human that eventually does cure cancer. This is not the point. The point is that abortion should only be legal under very strict circumstances. People should not be able to abort a baby after a certain amount of days simply because they do not want to have it any more. They should be given up to fifteen days to make a decision if they are going to have the baby or not because it is said that the baby’s heart starts beating 18 to 25 days after a female becomes pregnant. As a strong believer of abortion being considered a type of murder, I find that the number of abortions that take place in a year in the United States being the number one case of murder in America. It is significantly higher than any other type of murder. These abortion cases need to be lowered by a large number because they are killing out future generations of humans. If a woman does not want to keep a child, than they should put the child up for adoption as a last resort. However, I strongly recommend to the woman that they give their thought of putting a baby up for adoption a second opinion because they might want to know what there first child would have been like a couple years down the road. It is a very tough decision to make to have an abortion. Some woman turn depressed after they abort there babies because they wanted to know what the child would have been like. My recommendation is not to have an abortion and to give the child a chance of life.

The Double-Edged Sword

Abortion is probably the touchiest subject I could ever possibly dream up. It is so touchy in fact that I, Brittany Liebenow, will go out of my way to avoid talking about it. I believe that what makes abortion such a sensitive topic is that there is not an obviously correct answer. If someone were to ask me today if I would get an abortion, I would say probably not. I personally am not a huge fan of abortions, but that does not mean I want to take the option away from other people. As a feminist, I believe that a woman should have the right to decide what happens to her body. I also do not like the government making life-changing decisions for me. Abortion is also such a situation-sensitive topic. Because of these foundational reasons, I believe in legal abortion.

I say right now that I probably would not get an abortion, but that doesn’t mean my opinions wouldn’t change in the right situation. For instance, I believe that women who are raped should, even if all other abortion rights are suspended, have the right to an abortion. If I were raped and became pregnant, I would want that option. And to be honest, I would probably exercise my right to have that abortion.

Whenever anyone brings up abortion, the first ideas that run through my mind are those of women who have been raped. Those women did not choose to have sex with their rapists. Unlike people who get drunk at parties and make unfortunate decisions as a result, rape victims did not choose to put themselves at risk for pregnancy. I believe in overall fairness, so I believe that women who have been deprived of such a life-altering choice and who have had all power and control over their bodies taken from them should have the right to make the next life-changing choice they might be subjected to: abortion or no abortion.

If the right for a rape victim to reclaim power over her fate does not move you enough, then maybe some careful consideration of the possible consequences of depriving someone of a right to an abortion will. After puberty a girl can have a baby. Imagine a 12-year-old girl who happens to be an early bloomer walking back from school. Out of nowhere that girl is kidnapped and raped. Because she has reached puberty, this girl can become pregnant. At 12 years of age this girl and her parents have just found out that she is indeed pregnant. This traumatized girl, without abortion, will now be subjected to a plethora of health risks and an unimaginable amount of psychological damage combined with serious psychological and physical trauma from the rape. In situations such as these, I believe that it is in the best interest of the rape victim, and everyone else involved, if the girl has the right to an abortion.

My previous example also brings several issues with abortion to light. A woman should be given the right to choose. A woman should not be forced to make that choice. Also, I believe that abortion should only be used in situations where it is really necessary, such as rape or in potentially life-threatening situations. I do not support abortions because of sexism. A historically common decision in China is to abort baby girls due to China’s one child policy. I do not agree with that at all. Abortion should be for women, not against women.
“The unlawful killing of one human by another, especially with premeditated malice”, this is the definition of murder as defined by dictionary.com. Now with that in mind, what category would abortion fall under? As possibly the most controversial topic in debate currently, the lines of morality and freedom are blurred and questioned.
The act of terminating the pregnancy is most always premeditated and also would be believed to be a killing of one human by another. If this is the case, then this would fall under the category of murder then. However, when the future child actually progress from being two cells to being a human life is an unknown factor that plays heavily into the debate. Some would say that the union of the two cells could not be considered and actually baby until some amount of time for growth has passed. The counterpart to this argument is that a human life is formed as soon as the union occurs.
I would choose to err on the side of caution and claim the life of one begins at the very moment of conception. Therefore I can not condone the murder of children. I believe that there is no differentiating between the mass of cells and a human life in progress.
Back to the topic of abortion though, I really wish it was never discovered or invented, or whatever you could call it. People who stupidly sleep around with pretty much everyone they meet and wind up with a pregnancy should be taught a lesson on responsibility. I can think of no better way to do this than force them to live with the result of their foolishness for at least 9 months. If this does not teach them either self-control or responsibility in that area, then nothing will.
The other side I get stuck on though is the surrounding circumstances to the creation of the child. I don’t know if I could completely reject the idea of abortion for women who have been assaulted and the result is a pregnancy. Forcing the woman to live with the proof of the trauma would seem plain out cruel. The child would be a reminder everyday of the trauma that she experienced. Then looking at the child, what kind of life could they expect to lead? The knowledge of their conception would have to be a terrible burden to bear for the entirety of their life. The child could be resented by the mother and it just seems nothing good could come from that. I can’t help but think of the life of the children doomed to have one of those girls that is just brainless as a mother. That child would be condemned from the start to have a miserable life. I could not wish that fate on anyone.
The topic of abortion has so many angles and extenuating circumstances it has become exceedingly hard to judge right from wrong. I, personally, do not agree with it at all. However, I can understand why it sometimes could be considered the right course of action. If I were in charge of the laws, I would make it an extremely difficult procedure to obtain in hopes of deterring most. I would hope that there are still those who have the courage and understanding to take responsibility for their actions and not murder their unborn child as an easy way out.

Aboriton in Rainbow

As much as I’m slowly beginning not to think all children are yucky and sticky with little hands and drool on their faces, I’m still for having legal abortion. It’s a hard thing to say because I don’t exactly advocate aborting a child, but I believe the repercussions of what might happen otherwise beckon us all to keep abortion legalized, and just hope it’s used as a last resort for a minimum amount of cases.

As long as the abortion occurs within the first trimester, I think it’s alright. When you’re seventeen or eighteen you can go to any pharmacy and get a pill within the first few days after the supposed conception anyway. In all honesty, if it’s that easy to handle the situation before it even begins, I don’t understand why abortion rates are so high. If a woman thinks there is any chance she is pregnant and there’s no possibility she wants the baby she should just go ahead and get that pill. It’s a $50 easy way out compared to a $300+ heartbreaking decision that will be tougher later on. That is one thing relating to abortion that I just don’t understand.

Telling teenagers and adults not to have sex is never going to work. As hard as it is to accept that, it’s completely true. About 2/3 of highschoolers have had sexual intercourse by the time they have graduated. About 98% of these kids are using some form of protection, but I’m sure we all have been told enough to know that this does not always work. All we can tell people is to be as careful as possible, and if they notice a broken condom or even just get an eerie feeling, take care of it as soon as possible.

As for adoption, this may not always be the best solution for the child. People that would be irresponsible with an unwanted child are likely to be irresponsible with how they take care of themselves, even with a baby on the way. This is why I think that if a person who is considering terminating a pregnancy thinks she can change her lifestyle for 9 months, she should have the baby and give it up for adoption. However, if this woman is irresponsible to begin with and can’t give up her coke habit or nightly martinis to save a child’s life, I wholeheartedly agree with her having an abortion.

When a woman or a girl gets an abortion I feel like she should have to notify the father and her parents. I don’t think either party should be able to prevent her from the abortion, but they absolutely must know. If they can convince her to change her mind, then great, but it’s her choice and she must be allowed to make that choice.

I hate the idea of federal funds paying for abortion. As of right now, due to the Hyde amendment, the only way to get money for an abortion is if the baby is the product of rape, incest, or may be detrimental to the mother’s health. However, this is an amendment that must be passed every year so this could change. Hopefully it never will, but there is always the possibility.
